3rd GEN Project transforms personal stories and historical memory into living art through original music, choreography, and storytelling. By bridging generations, the project ensures that voices of survival are not only remembered but felt. Memory through Art.
This powerful dance memoir brings to life true stories of strength, fear, and heroism in the shadow of the Holocaust. Through original music, movement, and video testimonials from Yad Vashem, the work honors resilience, survival, and the rebuilding of hope.
The performance marks the first presentation in an ongoing artistic initiative dedicated to commemorating Holocaust survival stories through staged art. Each piece is rooted in real events, shaped directly by survivor testimony, and enriched with personal interviews and archival recordings, placing a human face and voice at the center of history.
This particular work is inspired by choreographer Shany’s grandparents and their lived experiences as Holocaust survivors.
3rd GEN Project was originally developed and presented in November 2023 at the SPARK Emerging Artists Festival in New York City. In November 2024, it premiered Off-Broadway at the KnJ Theatre to critical and audience acclaim, followed by a special performance on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 23, 2025, commemorating 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz.
