Israeli Scouts

Ages4th - 12th grade

Shevet Mezada, the Israeli Scouts of Tenafly, NJ, is part of Tzofim Tzabar, the Israeli Scouts of North America, which is an apolitical, non-sectarian organization.

Shevet Mezada was founded in 2002 and is rapidly growing each year, currently including more than 400 children, ages 10-18.

The Scouting program is conducted in Hebrew. The activities are youth-led and provide opportunity for young people to experience the responsibility and leadership of guiding others. The Israeli Scouts are also active in the Jewish community of Bergen County, helping in organizing and leading events on Jewish and Israeli holidays and memorials such as โ€œTu bishvat activityโ€; โ€˜Tekes Yom Hashoaโ€;โ€œTekes Yom Hazikaron; Purim Carnival, Mitzvah day and more.

Shevet Mezada holds weekly activities, usually on Sunday afternoon, at the JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ. The meetings are organized and led by Merakez Ha-Shevet (Troop Leader) and the Shachbag (Young Leadership, 10th -12th grades), with the support of Vaad Ha-Horim (Parents Committee).

The youth leadership of our shevet includes a โ€œMerakez Tzairโ€ (Junior Troop Leader); โ€œRashgadimโ€ (group head counselors) and counselors.

In addition to the regular weekly meetings, the Tzofim program includes Winter Camp, Spring Camp, Leadership Camp, and other fun activities. The scouts are expected to wear the Tzofim Uniforms (โ€œKhakiโ€ clothes) for the weekly activities.
