The Big Band Era

Presented by David Aaron
The big band era reached its height of popularity during the 1940's. Famous band leaders like: Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Harry James, Artie Shaw and many others became overnight musical stars in America. People were dancing "the lindy, the jitterbug, slow dancing “cheek to cheek" and listening to their favorite bands on the radio and on their own record machines. We'll discuss the rise, development and demise of the big bands, and listen to recorded music that made them famous.
