“Yaniv” Film Screening
With talkback and after party
A high school teacher in the Bronx (Ben Ducoff) loses funding for the school musical and convinces his fellow statistics teacher—secretly a recovering gambling addict—to help him cheat at an underground card game run by the Hasidic Jewish community. The plan goes awry with mounting consequences but help comes at an unexpected time from the least likely people.
Film will be followed by a discussion with writer/director Amnon Carmi and writer/actor Ben Ducoff. Participants will receive game cards and instructions on how to play Yaniv.

בשתוף המרכז הישראלי
מורה בתיכון בברונקס (בן דוקוף) מאבד את תקציב ההפקה של המחזמר הבית־ספרי, ומשכנע את חברו למגמת הסטטיסטיקה – מכור להימורים בהחלמה – לעזור לו לרמות במשחק קלפים מחתרתי המופעל על ידי הקהילה היהודית החרדית. התוכנית משתבשת ומובילה להשלכות הולכות ומחמירות, אך העזרה מגיעה ברגע מפתיע ממקום בלתי צפוי.
לאחר ההקרנה תתקיים שיחה עם התסריטאי והבמאי אמנון כרמי ועם התסריטאי והשחקן בן דוקוף.
המשתתפים יקבלו קלפים והוראות כיצד לשחק יניב.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day
In commemoration of this important day, we encourage you to join us for a documentary film, Four Seasons Lodge, in the Eric Brown Theater with Andrew Jacobs and Peter Chester for talkback.
From the darkness of Hitler’s Europe to the lush mountains of New York’s Catskills, Four Seasons Lodge follows a community of Holocaust survivors who come together each summer at their beloved bungalow colony to dance, cook, fight and flirt – and celebrate their survival. Beautifully photographed, this unexpectedly funny film confronts sobering topics like aging, loss and the legacy of the Holocaust, capturing the Lodgers’ intoxicating passion for life as the fate of their colony hangs in the balance.
Film will be followed by a discussion with director Andrew Jacobs and 2nd Gen Holocaust survivor and Catskills Borscht Belt Museum historian and founding director Peter Chester.

“Looking Up” Screening with Talkback
Presented in Partnership with the Israeli Center
This inspiring film follows the story of Eitan Armon, a young man grappling with the profound challenge of losing his sight. At just 20 years old, while serving in the military, Eitan learns he has Retinitis Pigmentosa, a rare genetic disease that slowly robs him of his vision. With only 5% of his central vision left and time running out, Eitan chooses not to focus on what he cannot control but instead sets his sights on the ultimate test of endurance—climbing Yosemite National Park’s iconic El Capitan, one of the world’s most formidable granite walls. Through determination, courage, and an unyielding spirit, Looking Up chronicles Eitan’s remarkable journey, offering a powerful message of resilience and reminding us that no obstacle is insurmountable for those who choose to face life with positivity and purpose.
This special Kaplen JCC premiere event will include the attendance of director Elena Neuman and film subject Eitan Armon and special guest Robert Heidenberg. Talkback with Q&A after the screening.

הסרט המרגש הזה עוקב אחר סיפורו של איתן ארמון, צעיר המתמודד עם האתגר העמוק של אובדן ראייה.
בגיל 20 בלבד, במהלך שירותו הצבאי, מגלה איתן כי הוא חולה במחלה הגנטית הנדירה רטיניטיס פיגמנטוזה, הגורמת לאובדן ראייה הדרגתי. עם כ־5% מראייתו המרכזית שנותרה, וכאשר הזמן הולך ואוזל, בוחר איתן שלא להתמקד במה שאינו בשליטתו, אלא להציב לעצמו אתגר קיצוני של כוח רצון והתמודדות: טיפוס על צוק אל קפיטן המפורסם בפארק יוסימיטי, אחד מקירות הגרניט המרשימים והקשים ביותר בעולם.
באמצעות נחישות, אומץ ורוח בלתי מתפשרת, Looking Up מתעד את מסעו המדהים של איתן ומעניק מסר עוצמתי של חוסן, תעוזה ותקווה ותזכורת לכך שאין מכשול שאי אפשר להתגבר עליו כשמציבים מטרה וחדורים באמונה.
