Volunteers of the Year 2024

Dear all,

As Jews, welcoming is and always has been an integral part of who we are. The commandment to be hospitable appears in the Torah 36 times – more than any other commandment. And welcoming guests is one of the few mitzvot described in the Talmud for which we receive the rewards both in this world and in the world to come.

This past year, your commitment to this value through your service with the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades’ Heart to Heart/Lev el Lev program was truly a mitzvah to the Israeli families temporarily residing in the community due to the horrific attacks of October 7th, some who were unable to return.  In recognition of your efforts, you have collectively been named the Kaplen JCC’s “Volunteers of the Year.”

This honor is bestowed on those who have gone above and beyond as leaders and members of their community – and I can think of no more deserving group then all of you. You created a place of healing and respite for children and families going through the unthinkable.  You made them feel a sense of normalcy when their lives were upended.  You gave your time and love to our brothers and sisters, and made a home for them.

We will recognize you as Volunteers of the Year at the Kaplen JCC’s Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 21st at 7:30pm, in the Taub Auditorium.  I hope you can join the board, the JCC staff, and your fellow honorees to accept a small token of our appreciation. If you are able to attend, please RSVP below.

Thank you for all for your time, your effort, and your heart.  We are grateful that you are members of our community.

Warmly,
Steve Rogers
