Sports Night of Champions brings together Jewish athletic icons, local legends, and the members of our community to celebrate our deep impact in the world of sports: not only in New Jersey, but around the globe.
On November 30, 2023, philanthropist Richard J. Kurtz made a $5 million gift to the Kaplen JCC and in recognition of his generous support, the New Jersey Jewish Sports Hall of Fame will be named for the Kurtz Family. CLICK HERE TO READ FULL STORY IN JEWISH LINK.

Since the founding of the The Kurtz Family New Jersey Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2019, the event has also featured the induction ceremony of three classes of prominent leaders and athletic standouts with a connection to the state. Thanks to the generosity of our community, this event has raised over $500,000 for scholarships at the JCC since its inception five years ago.
In addition to the Hall of Fame ceremony, the evening’s festivities include:
- The presentation of the Joseph Taub Scholar Athlete Awards to one female and one male high school senior from Bergen County, who will each be presented with a $10,000 college scholarship in recognition of their excellence in sports, academics and in their communities. These generous scholarships have been made possible by The Joseph and Arlene Taub Foundation in memory of Joseph Taub z”l.
- A live auction with spectacular items and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and a reverse auction; both supporting financial assistance to individuals and families in need of our JCC’s programs and services. Each year, we distribute over $1.9 million in scholarships for these members of our community.
A cocktail reception with stadium-style foods and other sports-themed activities completes the evening.
