This semester, Professor Dan Jatovsky will present three films that masterfully use time as a central element, each in a different way. As you’ll see, we can learn a lot about people when they are faced with a deadline.
Run Lola Run (1998)
Lola must sprint through the streets of Berlin in just 20 minutes to save her boyfriend from dire consequences after he loses a bag of money. The film explores the butterfly effect, showing how small decisions can dramatically alter the course of events in a high stakes race.
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
The dysfunctional Hoovers embark on a chaotic and hilarious road trip to get their young daughter, Olive, to a beauty pageant. Despite their many quirks and personal challenges, along the way, they discover a sense of family and acceptance, resulting in a meaningful journey.
Eye in the Sky (2015)
This gripping thriller revolves around a military operation to capture or eliminate a group of terrorists in Nairobi, Kenya. Tension rises as military and government officials grapple with moral and ethical dilemmas while overseeing the mission via surveillance technology and drones.
Dan will introduce the film with commentary, we’ll screen it together, and then he’ll lead the discussion following the film.
Even if you’ve seen the movie, watching it together and discussing it with an expert makes for a richer experience. So set your clocks, you’ll want to be on time!
