Barnes Foundation, Special Exhibit!

Visiting the Barnes in Philadelphia always inspires awe, whether it’s your first time or your umpteenth. The collection is truly staggering—it’s incredible that one person collected so many masterpieces and had a unique concept for exhibiting them.

There’s a special reason to go with us in April…the Barnes will be featuring a remarkable exhibit on Alexey Brodovitch, a Russian-born designer, photographer and instructor, best known for his art directorship of Harper’s Bazaar between 1934-1959 and making photography the cornerstone of its visual identity.

He is also known for his tutelage of an extraordinary number of celebrated documentary and fashion photographers, including Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Eve Arnold, and Lillian Bassman, and his work with luminaries such as Man Ray, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï and Martin Munkacsi.

Trip includes coach bus back and forth from the JCC, museum admission and a docent led tour. Lunch on your own, either in the museum or at an area restaurant.
