We are excited to be opening our Fall 2020-21 semester on Monday, October 5! Registration is ongoing.
Our model for this semester will be a combination of virtual lessons, occasional in-person lessons and classes, as well as hybrid options. We are following the safety guidelines as set by the CDC and local agencies, as well as parent requests and comfort level. For information on returning to our campus, please visit jccotp.org/faqs. We look forward to having you join us on this musical journey!
Ages 5-6. Learn about animals, plants and the environment around us through music! Children in this class develop their singing voice, participate in improvised and structured movement, play instruments, and do guided listening activities. The children start to work with written musical patterns and create their own simple songs. This developmentally sound approach to music literacy builds symbolic thinking, concentration, memory, and self-expression. You receive song books, posters, game pieces, and a parent book. Price includes a non-refundable materials fee of $55.
Discover the fun of playing the piano and learning simple songs in a small-class setting. Students acquire basic keyboard and reading skills, preparing them for individual study. For beginning students. Parents encouraged but not required to attend class. Price includes a non-refundable materials fee of $55.
Our classes are designed to encourage joy, fun, and active participation and play with a parent or caregiver through music, both Jewish and secular! Through singing games, fingerplays, poetry, rhythmic exploration, and movement, we help children find their singing voices and develop their musical 'ear' for matching pitches, their beat and rhythmic skills, exploration of artistic qualities in music, and their creativity.
For Ages 3-4. Explore the seasons through musical activities that build attention and self-expression. Children sing, chant, move, participate in focused listening, play musical games, explore instruments, improvise and listen to great storytelling. The Cycle of Seasons nurtures your child’s ability to use language and participate in dramatic play within the musical context of the four seasons. Sun Catchers covers the spring and summer. For fall and winter, please enroll in Wind Dancers next fall. Fun family packets including wonderful music CDs are included for use at home to increase family involvement in the learning process. Price includes a non-refundable materials fee of $45.
Ages 6-7. Your child explores the music of the British Isles and Germany, and of our own Amerindian and African-American heritage. Children learn songs, dances, stories, rituals, and customs of these cultures to help them feel and understand others around the world. By the end of the year, students are able to read and compose with simple notation. This class is excellent for preparing students for Beginning Theory and Ear Training and private instrumental lessons. You receive recordings, games, song pages, and a viewfinder. Price includes a non-refundable materials fee of $55.
If you’re looking for a fun instrument for you and your child, the ukulele is a perfect choice. Recommended home practice for success is at least 3-5 minutes on 3-5 days each week, to help the child learn the ukulele. Class size is limited to 6. For purchase options, please email rsearles@jccotp.org.
Children love this fun “drumtastic” class where they learn to improvise, keep steady beat, play in a group, and develop their own rhythmic and dynamic musical ideas! Instruments are provided. Parents are encouraged but not required to attend class.
