Cooking

Come get your cook on with the fabulous Amanda Capon where you’ll whip up some incredible confections and savory dishes to share (or keep for yourself!)

Meet Chef Amanda!

Amanda Capon is a Junior at Tenafly High School. She lived in New York City for most of her childhood and moved to Tenafly for middle school. Amanda excels in school, and loves babysitting and working with kids. Her other passion is cooking. She cooked and danced her way throughout the pandemic with her dad, Chef Josh Capon (Cooking with the Capons), and in turn, learned so much. She can’t wait to teach your child all the amazing skills she’s acquired! When she’s not cooking or babysitting, Amanda also enjoys tennis, movies, and hanging out with her friends.

Fine Arts

Calling all budding artists! Come learn how to draw, paint and design by first diving into the basic concepts: dimension, shadows, highlights, and perspective. Our step-by-step program gives children the self-confidence and technical skills to produce artwork in a warm and stimulating environment where their creativity can shine. Let’s get started!

Meet Debbie!

There is nothing Debbie Greenwald loves more than Art. After graduating Syracuse University with a BFA, Debbie went on to become an Art Director / Creative Director at McCann Erickson. There, she created print and TV campaigns for some of the most famous brands in the world. After leaving advertising as a young mom, she started her own design firm and, on a whim, took a job teaching art at a private school. It was there, that a small group of parents approached her to give their children after-school lessons. What started with 8 kids in her kitchen, snowballed to over 100 students by the end of the year! The next September, she opened The Art Place in Englewood. For the next 10 years, they offered craft and fine arts classes to both children and adults, parties, and yes…camps! They were such a success many other institutions (including the JCC!), had them offer their classes. “I love that this has come full circle and I am so happy to be back at the J!”

As they are creating, they will learn about different hem lines, neck lines, sleeve types, silhouettes and more.
