Watch the magic of artistry being passed from master artist to student musicians. In this public coaching, soloist Gohar Vardanyan will work with guitarists selected by tri-state-wide auditions, benefiting the students as well as the audience.
Widely admired for her technique, artistry, and passionate performances Armenian guitarist Gohar Vardanyan has performed throughout the United States and internationally. She has performed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, and guitar societies in Seattle, San Francisco, Houston, Miami, and New York City. She has appeared on National Public Radio and Radio Nacional in Argentina. She has also been a guest artist at International Guitar Festivals in Sweden, Italy, Panama, Canada, and Mexico. She has been featured on the cover of Classical Guitar Magazine. Guitar International Magazine has described her as “the complete package,” “with a musicality and emotional quality . . . that one would expect from someone much older than the young wunderkind. Not only is she able to draw you into her performances with engaging musical interpretations, but she has the technical facility that is required of any concert level guitarist.” Her playing has been described as “passionate,” “evocative,” and “virtuosic.” Read more about Gohar Vardanyan here.

Program to inlcude Frederic Chopin’s Impromptu No. 3, Scherzo No. 4, Berceuse, Ballade No. 4 and Sonata No. 3.
Acclaimed as an artist of unusual sensitivity and virtuosity, Thurnauer faculty member pianist Steven Masi has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and India. His recent performances and recordings of the complete Beethoven sonatas have been praised in the press. Fanfare Magazine has written, “It is not exaggerating to suggest that Masi belongs with the elite in the late sonatas, providing as satisfying an experience as the likes of Solomon, Kempff, and Pollini. Each texture, the place of every note, is carefully considered, yet the sense of exploratory, transcendent journey is profound indeed. Masi hardly seems to feel technical hurdles. It is as if everything is in the service of Beethoven.”
