SUMMARY:Chevruta in Jeans
DESCRIPTION:Switch to HebrewSwitch to English\n\n \n\n\n	\n\nChevruta in Jeans\n\n\n\nChevruta in Jeans (חברותא בג’ינס) is a unique and welcoming Jewish learning experience that brings timeless texts\, philosophy\, values\, and contemporary issues into open conversation from a secular and inclusive perspective. Through engaging discussions and thought-provoking topics\, participants will explore Jewish identity\, culture\, and ideas while building meaningful connections and community.  \n\n\n\nNo prior experience is necessary; bring your curiosity\, an open mind\, and a desire to learn together.  \n\n\n\nWednesdays\, Nov 11- Dec 16 | 8:00 – 9:30 PM  $218 Members/ $260 Guests 6-week course in Hebrew  \n\n\n\nAbout the instructor Tami Ben Shachar:  \n\n\n\nThe series will be facilitated by Tami Ben-Shahar\, a member of our community who grew up in an unconventional religious family in Israel and was educated at the same time in Orthodox and secular environments. This cultural fusion shaped her multidisciplinary worldview and will guide us toward unexpected connections throughout the series. Tami brings a rich academic and media background\, including degrees from Bezalel\, Tufts University and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston\, alongside her experience as a lecturer in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University and her many years as a design columnist for The Marker magazine. Under her guidance\, we will embark on a fascinating journey bridging “Alice in Wonderland” and the Bible\, artificial intelligence and “higher power\,” and Talmudic debates with gastronomic recommendations. Together\, we will explore Jewish myths to see how they can serve us in our day to day\, celebrate our cultural roots beyond definitions and clichés and choose which “souvenirs” to keep from the experience. Ultimately\, we will dig into the Jewish bookshelf; a source of endless inspiration for distinctly secular creations and decide whether we want to welcome it into our own private libraries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n\nחברותא בג׳ינס\n\n\n\nללמוד. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n	\n\n\n\n	\n Register Here\n \n	\n\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Living Like A Local
DESCRIPTION:Living Like a Local\n\n\n\nUnderstanding American Culture\, Customs & Everyday Life in Northern New Jersey\n\n\n\nLiving Like a Local is designed for adults who have moved to the United States\, recently or years ago\, and who want to feel more connected to American society while gaining a deeper understanding of the culture\, customs\, and everyday life in the U.S. \n\n\n\nThe course begins with the unwritten rules: the social and cultural norms that shape how Americans interact\, along with the expressions\, humor\, small talk\, and colloquialisms that fill everyday conversation. It then turns to examine the shared touchstones of American social life: sports\, food\, holidays\, and pop culture\, and the role each plays in bringing people together. \n\n\n\nThe second half is practical. Participants learn how essential systems work\, from taxes and tipping to healthcare\, schools\, and credit\, and then narrow the focus to New Jersey and the New York City metropolitan area\, where local customs and character have a flavor all their own. \n\n\n\nThroughout\, the emphasis is on connection. Participants meet other international and local community members and leave feeling more comfortable taking part in everyday American life. \n\n\n\nTime: 10:00–11:30 AM \n\n\n\nDates: \n\n\n\n\nNovember 13\, 2026\n\n\n\nNovember 20\, 2026\n\n\n\nDecember 4\, 2026\n\n\n\nDecember 11\, 2026\n\n\n\n\nMembers $184 / Guests $221 \n\n\n\nAll registration is final sale. Foreign-born and raised in an immigrant household\, she learned early that understanding a new culture often means figuring out all the things no one actually explains\, from unfamiliar expressions and social customs to navigating everyday systems and knowing what everyone is talking about during football season. \n\n\n\nFatima spent more than 20 years working in academia and global public health and now works as an independent consultant. She looks forward to creating a space where participants can ask the questions they’ve always wondered about\, share what they’ve learned from their own cultures\, laugh about some of America’s more puzzling customs\, and feel a little more at home in New Jersey. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nQuestions? She looks forward to creating a space where participants can ask the questions they’ve always wondered about\, share what they’ve learned from their own cultures\, laugh about some of America’s more puzzling customs\, and feel a little more at home in New Jersey. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nQuestions?
