Aquatics Programs at the JCC - COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

Welcome Home!

Please read below for safety precautions implemented to create a safe environment and experience for everyone who visits the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades Aquatics Facilities. These policies and procedures were created to reflect government guidelines as well as additional safety measures specific to our JCC.

Safer Participants

LIMITED OCCUPANCY/SMALLER CLASS SIZES: Aquatics programs are limited in size. Parents or caregivers are not allowed in the facility. You may walk your child through health checks and check-in, but then must exit immediately afterwards. The only exception is one parent or caregiver per participant in swim levels 1 and 2 and Water Babies will be allowed at the indoor pool during the class.

PHYSICAL DISTANCING: Participants are encouraged and positioned to physically distance during classes.

HEALTH CHECKS: Health screening questions and a temperature check is required for all participants prior to entry. Out of an abundance of caution, you may be asked questions more than once if you are participating in different programs. We appreciate your understanding. Members are asked to remain home if they are ill or have been exposed to COVID-19.

TOUCHLESS CHECK-IN: A “check-in” team member will be stationed at our front door to greet participants, check them in, and let them know where to meet their coach.

CHECK-OUT is located outside the health and wellness entrance. Children will be walked out by a member of the health and wellness team. Early pickups must be coordinated in advance.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Parents and children over the age of 2 are required to wear a face covering to comply with the current Executive Order while in the facility and on the pool deck. Face coverings are not permitted in the water.

REGISTRATION: Paper registration forms have been replaced with online registration only.

LOCKER ROOMS/CHANGING ROOMS: Locker rooms are closed; Swimmers should plan to arrive and leave in their bathing suits.

Safer Team

HEALTH CHECKS: Health screening questions and a temperature check is required for all aquatics staff prior to entry. Members and staff are being asked to remain home if they are ill or have been exposed to COVID-19.

PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT: A clear plastic barrier has been installed at the Courtesy Desk. Team members will wear masks and gloves during health screening and check-in. Instructors will wear face coverings while on pool deck and face shields if in the water.

EQUIPMENT: Certain programs will be asked to bring your own equipment. Any shared equipment will be sanitized and cleaned after classes/clinics.

AWARENESS & PREPAREDNESS TRAINING: Our employees play a key role in helping prevent the spread of coronavirus. To that end, our team has been instructed on how to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus.

Safer Facility

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades has taken a number of steps, outlined below, to help mitigate risk against the spread of Covid-19.

Increased cleaning and disinfecting:

2 additional cleaning staff per shift have been assigned to increase frequency of cleaning for high touch surfaces

  • Cleaning protocols identified for every program and service area
  • Signage on proper hygiene posted in all washrooms
  • Electrostatic sprayer used nightly
  • New non-toxic chemicals used for cleaning rated to kill COVID-19 in 1 minute

Facility modifications

  • Converted sinks, toilets and urinals to touchless where feasible
  • Installed arm pulls on doors where practical
  • Installed magnetic door stops to prop open doors where practical
  • Serviced HVAC system and replaced all air filters
  • Additional hand sanitizers installed throughout the building
  • Installed Plexiglass barriers at client service and security desks
  • Signage posted to clarify expectations and traffic manage flow

SAFETY SIGNAGE: Decals and signs throughout the facility share clear and helpful reminders and control the flow of traffic.

LOST AND FOUND: Please try your best to keep track of all your belongings, as the Lost and Found will be eliminated temporarily.
