Master Classes
Watch world-class musicians share their artistry with the stars of tomorrow.  Learn and be inspired!

The Sylvia and Jacob Handler Master Class Chair was established by Drs. Alan and Joan Handler to bring master artists and educators to the Thurnauer School of Music; to provide student musicians from throughout New Jersey with the opportunity to interact with world-class artists in a workshop setting; and to encourage connections among New Jersey's music educators.

Established in 2011 by Dr. Brett Lauring and Heidi Chen Lauring, the Beverly and Lewis Lauring Guitar Master Class series honors the memory of Dr. Lauring's parents, both ardent classical music lovers.

Attendance to master classes are free and open to the community!  Suggested donation: $10. All take place in the JCC's Eric Brown Theater. Click here for past master class artists.

Handler Master Classes are open to pre-college musicians from a wide range of ages and levels of training. The criteria for selecting participants include good preparation, serious dedication, and the ability to respond to suggestions in a class situation, whether the student is performing a standard concerto or a piece from the beginning repertoire. Students chosen to perform must be New Jersey residents and must be studying privately at a school or studio in New Jersey. Students currently enrolled in the preparatory division of a New York or Pennsylvania conservatory are not eligible to participate. For pianists: solo repertoire only; no concertos.

Lauring Guitar Master class is open to pre-college guitarists from New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.

The Flute Workshop is open to all pre-college students in the tri-state area.
