My Old Neighborhood Remembered
AVERY CORMAN, author of novels Kramer vs Kramer, Oh God!, The Old Neighborhood and 50 will share remembrances of his growing up years in the Bronx in the 1940’s and 1950’s. He will discuss writing his newly released memoir and show a short film.

The Golden Age of Television
Fordham Professor BRIAN ROSE comes to JCC University for a return engagement. This time his talk will focus on the early days of television when live original dramas launched the careers of famous directors, actors and playwrights. This lecture will look at the forces that made this “golden age” such an interesting chapter in TV history.

Partisan: The Life of William Rehnquist
JOHN A. JENKINS, author, publisher and entrepreneur will discuss his book on William Rehnquist which is considered the definitive biography on the late chief justice. In addition, he will talk about his newest endeavor, Law Street Media, a website that covers the most topical aspects of the law and public policy.

The Big Quiz Thing: The Live Trivia Spectacular
Producer NOAH TARNOW will lead this custom JCC University quiz event. We all know the answers when we can shout them out from our couch at home, but how much do we actually know when are put to the test in a real game show? Test your knowledge as you and your classmates experience this multimedia live trivia contest.

Soul Beliefs
Rutgers Professor of Psychology and TED talker DANIEL OGILVIE will have us consider the question: Why do we believe what we do about life after death? He will share his research on the causes and consequences of various beliefs about the soul. He will explain how these beliefs shape the worldviews of different cultures.

Inspired by Bach
ELAD KABILIO, Artistic Director of Music Talks and Music Director of Ballet Next will deconstruct Bach’s masterful First Cello Suite and will juxtapose it with contemporary counterparts Britten’s First Cello Suite and Corogliano’s Fancy on Bach Air.

The Latest Developments in Middle East Hot Spots Syria and Iran
JOSHUA GLEIS, PhD, International Security Consultant and Political Risk Analyst will take us through the geopolitical factors, international security issues and public diplomacy matters that are constantly evolving in these maelstroms of Middle East conflict.

The World of Short Films
DOUGLAS LECLAIRE, Instructor and Guest Lecturer at School of Visual Arts and One Day University will help us appreciate the short film as an artistic medium. Director of Asbury Shorts, the longest running film exhibition and travel show, he will take us on a quick trip to a film festival where you see the very best of the genre.
