Join us for a delightful evening of song celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the SHIRAH Choir! Honoring SHIRAH's Founders: Bernie and Ruth Weinflash (z"l), Avi Lewinson (Past CEO, Kaplen JCC on the Palisades), and Matthew Lazar (Founding Director of SHIRAH).
Conductor Marsha Bryan Edelman will lead the ensemble in music from the choir's repertoire of music in Hebrew, English, and Yiddish. Founding Director Matthew Lazar will return to lead Shirah - and alumni singers joining the chorus for the occasion - in highlights from the past. The program will also feature the world-premiere of "Do Justice," by Benjie Ellen Schiller, commissioned in memory of Bernie and Ruth Weinflash and in honor of Shirah's 25th anniversary.
Founded in 1995, Shirah performs secular and sacred songs from across the spectrum of the Jewish musical tradition. Shirah performs regularly at the JCC, has been featured in many concerts in the US and Israel, including Avery Fisher Hall, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Bergen Performing Arts Center, and annually at the North American Jewish Choral Festival.
